The idea for our new play room was to create a space where the children had everything on hand to create, draw, paint, play, dance, read and be free! We wanted to display their creations and include all their toys but in a manageable and organised way so that it can easily be put away and remain a calm and tidy space.

So we started with the storage - lots of storage! We dedicated one whole wall to it so we had space to put all the toys and plays things. We had a fairly severe toy cull first to get rid of things they just didn't play with. We used white Ikea Besta units with doors to hide away all of the smaller toys. Inside are our favourite Ikea white kitchen storage boxes - we are a little obsessed with them! They fit perfectly and hold so much. The doors are important because it means we can shut away the toys behind them! To display the kids art and crafty creations we put up this curtain wire from Ikea - and pegged their art to it.

We really wanted to inject some bright and bold colour into this space. The storage boxes are just standard cardboard office/organiser boxes which we transformed with a rainbow selection of paints from , they are the perfect match for our new felt garland from Velveteen Babies. We tucked toys in our Ferm Living baskets under the side storage, they slide out really easily and are robust enough for some of the kids more sturdy tractors and diggers! We will be adding some more wire baskets under here with some great fabric inserts - we'll show you those on our upcoming storage blog post.

These book holders are a genius idea (that we can't take credit for!) and an absolute bargain. They are spice racks from Ikea and make fantastic book racks! We arranged our library in colour groups for extra appeal. Our felt wolf rug lies on the floor, he's a real character and adds personality and texture to an area that might otherwise might be a little harsh with all the square white storage.

On the opposite wall to the storage cupboards we created an art area with a desk each for Sammuel and Dixie. The desks are folding wall tables from Ikea. They fold neatly away when not in use freeing up more space for play. Above the desks we hung a roll of paper ready to pull down and scribble on! We stored the kids paint brushes and pencils in our Normann Copenhagen wall pockets and put up this fabulous pegboard made by Block which holds all their scissors and tapes. Our trusty DIY banner spells out who sits where!

The desk chairs are upcycled school chairs - painted in vibrant colours. We topped them with our Sebra Holly and Elliot printed cushions and we think they look brilliant! The cloud wall sticker adds bold monochrome shape to the room and doubles up as a chalk board - the kids love scribbling on it and we like leaving little messages for each other too!
Above the arty area we added a picture shelf with a couple of our favourite prints in frames Snug Studio's ABC blocks poster and Seventy Tree's Big Panda. Our new smart art display frames are a really great idea and make it so easy to display the kids work smartly alongside our posters.
